PSORIASIS

Psoriasis is a chronic immune-mediated inflammatory condition or autoimmune disease mainly affecting the skin, hairs and joints. Males are more affected than females. Various sites of the body such as scalp, face, trunk, limbs, palms, and soles involved in psoriasis.

In Ayurveda, skin diseases have collectively been considered under Kushtha. Ayurveda believes that impurities in the blood associated with emotional factors are the cause of the disease.

Psoriasis is believed to occur due to vitiation of all the three doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) in varying degrees, but predominantly Vata and Kapha according to the Ayurvedic concept.

Psoriasis typically looks like red or pink areas of thickened, raised, and dry skin. It classically affects areas over the elbows, knees, and scalp.It may be small flattened bumps, large thick plaques of raised skin, red patches, and pink mildly dry skin to big flakes of dry skin that flake off.

VITILIGO

Vitiligo is a skin condition characterised by the loss of melanin, the pigment that gives skin its colour. This results in white patches or irregular depigmentation on the skin and itching. It is an autoimmune condition in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys melanocytes, the cells responsible for producing melanin.In Ayurveda, vitiligo is known as "Switra" or "Kilasa." It is primarily caused by an imbalance in the body's doshas along with impairment in the deeper tissues and toxins accumulation in the body.

Vitiligo can occur at any age and on any part of the body. It may progress slowly or rapidly and can be associated with thyroid disorders, diabetes, and alopecia areata.

Treatment focuses on body detoxification along with improving the appearance of the skin, including abhyanga, siravedha and lepa application.

ECZEMA

Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, is a chronic skin condition characterised by inflamed, itchy, and red patches of skin.In Ayurveda, eczema is referred to as Vicharchika. It can occur at any age but is most common in infants and young children. Symptoms of eczema can vary from person to person and may include:

Itching

  • Red or brownish-grey patches of skin
  • Dry, cracked, or scaly skin.
  • Thickened, leathery skin
  • Small, raised bumps that may ooze fluid when scratched.
  • Ayurvedic treatments for eczema focus on rebalancing the doshas, detoxifying the body, and promoting healthy skin.
  • ALOPECIA

    Alopecia is a condition characterised by hair loss, which can occur in various forms and affect people of all ages and backgrounds.Hair loss (alopecia) can affect just your scalp or your entire body, and it can be temporary or permanent. It can be the result of heredity, hormonal changes, medical conditions or a normal part of ageing.Nowadays it's commonly due to nutritional deficiency.

    In Ayurveda, "Khalitya" refers to hair fall or hair loss.It includes imbalances in the body's doshas (energies), poor digestion, weak immunity, stress, and environmental factors. It is based on an individual's unique constitution (Prakriti), imbalances (Vikriti), and specific health needs. Ayurveda approaches typically involve balancing dosha through dietary and lifestyle changes,procedures as well as herbal remedies.

    DANDRUFF

    Dandruff (seborrhoeic dermatitis of the scalp) can affect almost 50% of the human population. It can start at any time after puberty and is slightly commoner in men. It can result in social or self-esteem problems. In Ayurveda it can be correlated as “Darunaka”. White oily flakes of dead skin and Itchy scaly scalp are the common symptoms of dandruff. It gets more flared in cold and dry seasons. Symptoms are

  • scaling of the scalp
  • Itching
  • Dryness and roughness of scalp
  • Hairfall
  • Difficulty in tolerance and loss of touch sensation

    GREYING OF HAIRS

    Greying of hairs is a natural phenomenon that's part of the ageing process. Hair gets its colour from a pigment called melanin, produced by cells called melanocytes. When there's less melanin, our hair loses its colour and starts to appear grey or white. Although it can sometimes happen due to factors like genetics, stress, nutritional deficiencies, or certain medical conditions.

    According to Ayurveda, the greying of hair is associated with an imbalance in the body's doshas, particularly Pitta and Vata. Ayurveda views hair as a byproduct of bone tissue, and therefore, the health of the hair is closely linked to the health of the bones.When Pitta is aggravated, it can lead to premature greying, along with other symptoms such as inflammation, acidity, and irritability.Ayurveda approaches typically involves balancing Pitta dosha through dietary and lifestyle changes,procedures as well as herbal remedies.
